Description:
Pakistan's prime Minister has confirmed up to 500 people have been arrested across the country, in a crackdown which began after the President declared a state of emergency.
Speaking at a media conference during the past hour, the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said the elections, which has been scheduled for January, could be delayed for up to a year.
But he added that the government hasn't yet made any decision.
President Musharraf says the move follows what he calls 'rising Islamic extremism'.

Depending on where the support for insurrection is centered in Pakistan, it may open the opportunity for the forces in Afghanistan to actually come into the sovereign territory of Pakistan, to fight against the Taliban and to find and destroy what is there of Al Qaeda.

Musharraf may be greedy but he is certainly not stupid.
The nukes will never end up with Al-qaeda, for 2 good reasons:

Musharraf has been there for a long time now. I will give him credit for progress in Pakistan.
Who would lead in the absence of Musharraf? I think it would be the Taliban. They are the only armed opponents to the government there.
If there are more Taliban than Army, then Pakistan will go the way of the Taliban.

I'm not so sure. I think Musharraf takes advantage of this fear to keep himself in power. We shouldn't depend on one single man like this, letting him do anything he wants.
