Description:

The actual solo is double tracked be Dave, so you may hear some strange things whilst listening closely to it. I've transcribed the most prominent part. Dave Gilmour has a 'fake' sound. I assume he has a Vox AC30 amp with some distortion and echo effects to get his sound. For the audio example, I used a Fender Telecaster through a Marshall emulator and a real Marshall cabinet. For the opening phrase, be pretty heavy handed. It's a real outcry for human kind, so you want to make it sound pretty intense. You can do this through harder picking and strong vibrato. It's also good to get some of your bends slightly out of tune. Bend a little bit too far, and a little bit too slight in some places. Use that sparringly though... For the quieter bit when the backing changes to DMaj7th/AMaj7th, You might want to back the overdrive off a little. I didn't. Change your playing style for this. This is the musical answer and resolve. It should sound 'kind' and peaceful, even though the music itself still holds a strong message. The audio has the backing on the LEFT and the actual solo panned RIGHT.

It's not 'real'. I mentioned earlier in the comments that this was an older tip that was audio only. So this is me miming over something I had previously recorded. :-)
